Hey Jordan, thanks for reaching out. Some quick thoughts for you: Replacing Toolbar with Dashboard  I’ve always liked the dashboard approach. Visually it’s awesome and it works well for apps like Venmo. The argument against it is discoverability / burial of features. If you spend most time on Schedule, you may forget about Places or Social. I suppose it’s why Twitter went back...

I was asked recently what my goals are. They include (among other things) to work in the Global-Mobile-Consumer space; consumer applications used by millions of people from their mobile phone. I want to be part of a team that’s responsible for creating a great mobile user experience. So, I’m really pleased to be working with foursquare this summer. Even managed to get nick at...

I’m evaluating Foursquare for Android as part of a subject on Usability Engineering. We first need to identify the goals of the company which include, presumably, to: facilitate location-based information sharing build a community; and guide interaction between users and brands A genuine service, a critical mass, and a monetisation mechanism.

Technical Bits
Screen Sizes for Foursquare Stats Widget There’s a layer of complexity in supporting multiple screen resolutions when using pre-scaled Drawable resources. It gets even harder when you consider both Portrait and Landscape since the pixel density swaps around.  I created 3 widgets, each with background a resource: tiny small medium (Jeff Sharkey my inspiration for the naming...

Foursquare Stats Widget for Android
I wanted to give some visibility to the Leaderboard page of the Foursquare for Android app. Like many Foursquare addicts, I want to know how I’m tracking in relation to my peers - and frequently. So, I decided to create some Android Widgets to reduce the number of clicks to get me that information on a regular basis.  More specifically, the widgets show: position on the leader board,...
